Love Your Body: Make Caring for Your Skin A Ritual

One of the surest ways to show love and respect to yourself is to take excellent care of your body. Body care has many layers, and today’s focus is on your skin (of course, right?). When you think of your current shower routine, what comes to mind? Does it remind you of a chore or something you “gotta” do? If so, what if it became the daily experience you look forward to? This is what I mean by “ritual.”
In 2023, I read Don Miguel Ruiz’s The Mastery of Love for the first time. His perspective on loving, honoring, and respecting the body inspired me deeply, and since then, my skincare has been a ritual. Here is how you can elevate caring for your skin:
Take Your Time
When taking a shower or enjoying a bath, slow down. This experience is to be enjoyed- not rushed. It may require you to wake up earlier or give less time to other matters. I allot extra time out of my schedule for this because it takes me 25-30 minutes to clean my body (excluding my face and neck). Focus on covering and massaging every area of your beautiful body, not because you have to, but because you can.
Set The Mood
We all appreciate a nice ambiance, right? Dim the lights or use none at all, light a candle, prepare yourself a cup of tea, and add herbs or flowers to your bath water. There are many ways to elevate your shower/bath experience. What matters most is ensuring you feel amazing and special.
Cleansing Meditation
In the shower, the mind often drifts and wanders. But how can you fully enjoy caring for your body if your mind isn’t present? As you cleanse your body, focus on your breath. Imagine washing away self-limiting beliefs, shame, and anything that no longer serves you. Stay rooted in the present moment, letting go of the past and releasing worries about the future.
These simple tips can make a major difference in how you see yourself. To love yourself fully is to embrace and cherish your body.
