Greetings to everyone except those in warmer climates. Just kidding! I am deeply happy for you 🙂
I’ve never liked winter too much for many reasons, and one is that it changes the quality of my skin. Growing up in the Midwest has forced me to work overtime to maintain beautiful and moist skin. Here are five tried and true tips to do the same!!!
By now, you should know how important it is to clean your skin regularly. Because our skin naturally becomes drier during winter, we must avoid cleansers that strip it of its natural oils. Cream cleansers, known as “milk” cleansers, can hydrate and moisturize the skin without stripping it. Perfect for all skin types, especially dry or sensitive. This makes such an amazing difference in skin texture, especially during winter.
Exfoliation
Our skin becomes drier in winter, leading to more buildup of dead skin cells. Exfoliation, the process of removing dead skin cells, is essential for maintaining healthy skin. During winter, it’s especially important to exfoliate more frequently than in spring or summer. Our face and body should be exfoliated at least once a week. Avoid over-exfoliating, as this can cause flakiness, itchiness, or peeling.
The “E” must mean EVERYTHING because what doesn’t this oil do?! I add it to all of my body butter, creams, and lotions. It has anti-inflammatory properties, helps hydrate and protect, fades scars and wrinkles, and minimizes sun damage. All of which is perfect for winter. I live by this!
Lukewarm
God knows I love a hot, steamy shower, but I love my skin more. Hot water can strip the skin of its natural oils and cause dryness/irritation. While it feels so good on the skin, it isn’t gentle enough, especially during winter. Using lukewarm water for the face and body helps maintain a strong skin barrier.
Footcare
Dry feet and cracked heels are never pretty, man or woman. When you exfoliate your body in the shower, give your feet some extra TLC. Follow up with your preferred cream (don’t forget the vitamin E). Treat yourself to a pedicure or DIY. An old-school trick that always works is slathering Vaseline on and wearing socks to bed.
I trust that you’ve enjoyed this post, especially if you live in colder climates.
Warmly and with love,
H
